A Mother-Daughter Diary Of Breast Cancer

April 15, 2014

A Scottsdale woman and her daughter are coping with a serious illness in their family. The mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Her family has a history of cancer, and now doctors are concerned that her teenage daughter has a good chance of getting cancer later in life. Olivia Parker is with KJZZ’s Spot 127 Youth Media Center, and she has prepared this diary about her mom’s battle against breast cancer.

Geeks Night Out

Mom Protests to Save Healthcare

After three years in remission for breast cancer, a Scottsdale woman and her daughter are struggling to decide what is more important; getting tests done to see if her daughter has a chance for cancer or being put in a high risk pool. Olivia Parker is with KJZZ’s Spot 127 Youth Media Center, and she has prepared this interview with her mom on how she is planning to save healthcare.

Teen Art Night

Teen Art Night is the center for finding local work from teen artists that is put on by teen artists! The night is only open to teens, for them to look at what their fellow generation is producing. Recently, President Trump issued a policy to make more than $54B cut in non-defense domestic programs in the United States. Along with that, completely eliminating funding for several programs including the National Endowment for the Arts. We visited teen art night not only to check out the fun event but to see how local teens felt on this policy.

On the corner of Rural and Broadway in Tempe, Arizona lies a hidden gem called the Wayne Smith. This collaborative space offers everything from work spaces to outdoor open mic nights. Owner Salim Zeitoun and Artistic director Sean Hoy sat down to talk about what makes it stand out in the community.
